Research and Security
Following the adoption of the Council Recommendation on Research Security in May 2024, Opix has taken on the role of national correspondent for Greece and Cyprus.
We are reporting on the progress of implementing this important EU initiative.
Research Security is about protecting Europe’s research and innovation from foreign interference—activities by foreign state-level actors that are coercive, covert, deceptive, or corrupting, and go against the sovereignty, values, and interests of the EU. This includes efforts to steal information, influence decisions, or undermine democratic principles.
As part of our role, Opix is gathering evidence in Greece and Cyprus through interviews with:
- National authorities
- Research funding bodies
- Selected research-performing organisations
The insights from these interviews—together with desk research—will feed into country fiches for each Member State. These fiches will help the European Commission compile the 2025 Research Security Monitor Report.
